The Elementary and Jr./Sr. High School buildings together serve around 1,200 students over 185,000 square feet of educational space, both using an energy-conscious building design to optimize energy usage, motion-sensing lighting, frequency drives for air handlers, energy recovery ventilators, economizers on all air handling equipment, variable air velocity classroom comfort, multi-stage no CFC chillers, new modern boilers, software to power down computers when not in use (over 500), comforting only occupied areas, optimal HVAC comfort strategies and a Building Automation Control System all play a role in the accomplishment of the "Energy Star" rating.
