The Gazette Athletes of the Month

Jevin Sponcil

Jevin Sponcil may be newer to GHS, but he’s no stranger to basketball. He’s been playing for 12 years and has already made a name for himself as a clutch shooter. His highlight of the season was hitting a game-tying three against Felicity, a moment that had the whole gym on edge. But his biggest play came when he sank a game-winning three-pointer to send the team to the championship, proving that he thrives under pressure.

Even in the offseason, he’s fully committed to the game, playing for one of the best AAU teams in the state. His dedication to improving his skills year-round will make him a player to watch in the coming seasons.

Jade Osman

Jade has been at GHS since kindergarten and has been playing basketball for six years. She’s a true competitor, balancing basketball with volleyball, track, cross country, and AAU basketball. She’s even thinking about adding tennis to the mix, proving that she never backs down from a challenge. Her biggest moment this season was getting her first varsity start during a game against Williamsburg, a milestone that reminded her how much hard work pays off. Another highlight was her steal against Bethel, where she managed to pass the ball to teammate Morgan Preston for a layup while falling out of bounds. Plays like that show her hustle and court awareness, which have made her a huge asset to the team.

NEWSPAPERS CANNOT BE DEFINED BY THE SECOND WORD---PAPER. THEY'VE GOT TO BE DEFINED BY THE FIRST WORD---NEWS.
