Sixth-grade STEM students are actively engaged in the initial phases of constructing their wearable droids. Throughout this process, they acquire essential engineering skills related to mechanics while assembling the components of the Wearable Droids. Additionally, they will gain knowledge in electronics as they connect an LED, motor, buzzer, and buttons. We are thankful for our Southern State computer science students who help in our classroom along the way! #IgniteInspireInstill

Fifth-grade STEM students have been exploring the concepts of force and motion. They showcased their grasp of inclined planes by building frames and applied their knowledge of levers while creating flippers. To illustrate the three primary forces that affect the movement of a pinball, they designed and built pinball machines using cardboard. #IgniteInspireInstill

The Georgetown branch of the Brown County Library recently took a trip to the STEM lab. Kindergarten students engaged in problem-solving as they raced their coding mice toward a piece of cheese. After several unsuccessful attempts at directing their bots, one finally made it to the cheese! We had a fantastic time exploring directions and the importance of following multiple steps to accomplish a task. Thank you, Georgetown Library, for bringing all the giggles to our classroom! #IgniteInspireInstill

STEM students recently welcomed Beth Leibriech from NAL, who shared insights on the significance of creative problem-solving. She highlighted the inventive spirit of her family business, which has harnessed creativity and teamwork to design machines that utilize cardboard and paper products in groundbreaking ways. This local enterprise proudly employs 36 individuals in Brown County. A big thank you to NAL for their generous contributions to our simple machine lessons, which allowed students to enjoy constructing a skid to store their materials. #IgniteInspireInstill

Doug Daniels, Commander of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Southern State Community College, owner of Triple D drones, and a Special Deputy with the Highland County Sheriff's Office, recently presented to K-6th grade STEM students at GES. As our elementary students explore careers this school year, Mr. Daniels shared how his career in law enforcement shifted when drone technology was introduced. With the help of a few of Mrs. McKinney's Georgetown HS students he has worked with in the past, they put on a mini drone show for students. The drone industry is a rapidly growing field. Engaging with students on their love of controlling video games and their curiosity about flight he introduced the possible careers available to them with drones. Industries like shipping, agriculture, construction, entertainment, law enforcement, and more use drones to innovate their fields. The use of drones creates more efficient and safe work environments for their employees. Introductions to multi-billion dollar industries like these may spark curiosity in our students to pursue careers in programming, design, engineering, mechanics, and data analysis. #IgniteInspireInstill
